Frequently Asked Questions
Is ROCKGLASS UV protected?
Yes, it is. The final coating on both sides of ROCKGLASS is a hard coat that creates a scratch-resistant surface. The coating also contains a very effective UV ray absorber.
What is the U value of 10 mm ROCKGLASS?
A 10 mm sheet of ROCKGLASS has a U value of 4.72 in SI units.
Does ROCKGLASS burn?
ROCKGLASS has a flammability rating of CC1 and an ASTM D 635 result value of <1. To be more specific, ROCKGLASS does not create flame spread as it is self-extinguishing, unlike acrylic which creates flames, consuming the plastic vigorously.
What is the density/weight of ROCKGLASS compared to regular glass?
ROCKGLASS is one-half the density 1.2 g/cm3 of regular glass, or glass is twice 2.5 g/cm3 the weight of ROCKGLASS.
How impact-resistant is ROCKGLASS compared to regular glass?
It will withstand a 200 ft lbs impact. For reference, tempered glass will only withstand a 2.5 ft lbs impact.
Do ROCKGLASS panels or IGUs have Low-e coatings on any of their surfaces?
No. Currently, our products do not have Low-e coatings. We are working towards implementing a solution to be able to specify Low-e. Many IGUs and windows do not have Low-e coatings in their configurations to keep costs down.
